Let's see some thrashed skidplates guys. Go hit some things. I want to know how well these hold up. My main concern is that the skidplate is going to sit so low that I'll hit more things and push the skidplate into my pan.

Yeah I'd like to see how these do.

      Need a skidplate soon

I just jacked up the car (slowly) by the skidplate, right under the oil pan. I didn't put the tires all the way in the air, but I'd estimate that 50% of the front end's weight was off the ground. The plate maybe flexed 1mm if that, and didn't come close to the pan.

Not that I'd suggest that - I just did it to see. But the bottom line is that you'd have to really drill something very solid and large to hit the skid into the pan. Plus, even if it does, it's a flat surface that would distribute its pressure all along the pan.

Of course, my car won't hit any solid things like manhole covers or curbs, since I have like 6" under the plate, lol.

The plate is most definitely stronger than the chassis points it bolts to. So unless you plan to reinforce those areas, you'll be fine.

          Also, added thing:

          ProTip:
I got some 90mm M10 bolts to replace the stock steering rack bolts, which are 82mm (IIRC). Dropped them down from the top (above the rack), and then put a thin M10 nut on the bottom BEFORE installing the skid. Tightened it to spec. That way, when you put the skid on, you don't have to hold the top of the bolt (which is a pain to get to)....you can just ratchet the skid bolt right on, and you're good to go.

here's a shot of it on, on the ground

I also made some "spats" out of sheet metal on the sides to keep mud and crap out of the engine bay in rallycross. Not really necessary for street cars, but figured I'd share. They still need to be finished/touched up a bit, but you get the idea.

don't mind the runny paint. Had an issue with a stuck spray nozzle, lol

                    Ben,
Got my skid plate last week.
Very nice piece, one of the nicest things that I have bought for this car.
I am very impressed with the quality and everything looks great. Thanks for providing the E30 community with a great useful product.

How low are you? I'm going coilover next month and would like to get a skidplate as well since chicago sucks for road debris.

I was looking at the E30 Motor Werks one but this one looks to get the job done for much less.

OP, what's the timetable like on these? If I want to install around Easter, when do I need to get my order in?

I just spent a few days in Chicago. The roads are pretty rough out there!
I have all 3 plates (ie; M20, M42 and 24v) ready to ship. I plan to keep these in stock, so there shouldn't ever be a wait (maybe a day or two).
As far as shipping goes UPS ground gets the west coast delivered in about 2-3 business days and the mid-west and east coast takes about 5 days.
                        Just let me know.

I've got probably 2.5-3 inches of clearance, maybe.

Yeah, but growing up here I know how to dodge holes.

Good deal, I'll be in touch once my ducks are in a row.
