m60 and m62 looking for m62tu memphis area

    Was assembling parts for m60b44 frankenbuild. I bought a 95 m60b40 pulled from a 740, and a 97 m62b44 pulled from a 540.
I also picked up a good 6 speed e39 manual trans, pedal assy, driveshaft, etc. Most accessories still on engines. No harnesses on either.

In the meantime I've decided to go different way for this project, no longer need either v8. But,

I do need an m62tu to replace my 01 engine that has failed (x5).

I wish to find someone locally who will trade me a good m62tu for the m60 and m62, straight across.

I am in Memphis. Local pickup/ transport, or engine removal possible for right deal.

I don't know why your x5 engine failed, but I have two good m62tu cylinder heads with complete vanos and a driver side head gasket.

it was the tensioners/guides which failed, causing it to jump time. The labor and gasket set expense involved in putting a head on these engines makes repairing it (even if there is no physical damage to the valvetrain, which there probably is) unappealing to me. The timing tools alone, just not looking to go through all that when I can put new guides and tensioners, a few seals and oil pan swap onto a good 540/740 engine and basically call it a day.

What kills me is I threw in a known good complete m62tu I had lying around with a 97 540 I sold which had a hole in its m62 block from hydrolock, so the guy could put the tu block under his m62 head, and I know he never did anything with it. Its probably sitting in someone's backyard right now under a sheet of plastic, still intact but collecting moisture. He's got the whole deal up on CL right now just as I gave it to him, but he hasn't replied to my repeated inquiries to buy it.

You could say I'm dealing with bad timing on multiple fronts

Sorry to hear that, I know how hard it can be knowing when to keep and get rid of stuff.
