    E30 M42 bolt on electric fan/shroud conversion

I have a few spare fans that fit directly behind any 318i/is with the m42 radiator. Its a 2 speed fan that came from an e36 m42/m44 car. Some cars came with this as an option. You can remove your fan clutch and run these fans off the OEM aux fan wiring. The low speed fan will come on with the A/C as normal. The temp switch will trigger the other fan speeds. The aux fan on the front of the condenser can be removed. You will need to cut the connector off the OEM aux fan and cut/splice to the extra wiring on the new fan that I have. It's really straight forward and I can explain it in detail if needed.

    Additional part needed:

80/88 degree temp switch to replace the OEM 92/99 one. (Ill get the part number later)

How deep are the fans? Would this fit with an M5x swap?
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

There is about an 1-2 inch gap between the fan motor and the m42 water pump threads where the fan used to bolt on. I really don't know about a m5x swap or not, but can get any measurements of it that you need.

Oem BMW. The fan/shroud are one piece. It slides in the same slot the old mechanical shroud did and uses the two clips/pins on top to
Hold it in place. You can buy a oem or aftermarket temp switch. You MUST use a lower degree temp switch.

Is there a benefit to running this with the shroud?

The fan and shroud are one piece. I would imagine the shroud helps or it wouldn't of been made that way.
