FS: 24V S50 Long Block Engine

    1995 M3 S50 Long Block 151k Miles - $1000 obo

I'm ready to pull my S50 from my 1995 M3 to replace with a rebuilt S52. Before I pull it I would like to give any potential buyer the chance to see and feel it run. It's currently installed and the car is running. I'm located just north of San Francisco, CA.

The sale would be for just the longblock. No accessories. The engine has 151k miles on it. I have owned the car with this engine since 2009 with 127k miles on it. Regular oil changes 5w40 or10w40. No internal mods. Has been running on a bigger MAF, injectors chip etc.

The reason I'm pulling the motor is because of a potential head gasket failure. The car has exhibited cooling issues at the past few track events. It will basically run fine, but then get too hot after about 20 min of beating on it and finally overheat. Assume the worst that it is the beginning of a HG failure. There is no chocolate milk oil or white smoke. Car pulls as hard as it ever has.

So basically you may be able to drive this motor as is in daily conditions, but assume that it will need a head gasket soon. The chance that it is something else in the cooling system besides a HG failure is possible but water pump, thermostat, radiator, coolant hoses and everything has all been replaced. Assume HG. Motor sold as is.

Other things to note it does have a lifter tick for about 5 minutes when first starting if it's been sitting for longer than 2 weeks. It then goes away after warmed up. Doesn't happen if car runs regularly.

I have 2 videos showing the last time I ran the car hard. They are just from an iphone on a simple mount. Sorry for any quality issues. Select HD 1080 to see the temp gauge in certain light.

Here is a video of the last track event at Sonoma. This is the final and fastest session of the day. 1:56.9 best lap. For whatever reason it did not overheat on this session even though it had already put down 32 hard laps. You can see the car pulls hard. It's 20 min. It's basically just showing the engine is strong and no over heat.

This video is from the same event but the session just prior to the last one. The car starts to get hot after 18 min. I ease off the car and try to get it back to the pits. It goes in and out of the red as I turn the car and weight transfers. On straights it starts to get hot again? The video ends early, I limped to the pits right after that. Bad view, boring video, just proof of problem.

So if you're not local hopefully these videos will help. I'm just trying to be as transparent as possible. If you have any more questions just let me know. Last thing I could do is compression numbers but I don't have a good battery right now.

If you're interested in shipping. The last motor I shipped was about $400 to Texas. I wouldn't assume much less even to socal. I also charge $50 pallet/handling fee if you want to go the ship route.

Again asking $1000 obo Long Block no accessories.

I have some spares, stock water pump, exhaust manifolds random things I could throw in if interested.

Not a ton of pictures of the engine. This is my car that it is coming out of. I know you guys love e36. :p
