                      Don't part it!

I hate to see these things parted out --- there are few enough of them on the road as it is. I'd much rather see someone put it back together, clean it up properly, and keep it on the road.

Your choice, of course. But I hate to see them parted out when they're perfectly salvageable.

                                AJ,
I have spent many months of my life (collectively of course!) pondering that exact thought.

                                Here is my take:
Clean cars SHOULD be saved. Cars that are not clean will falsely devalue the clean cars that are out there, and that is not fair.
Additionally, especially with the way E30 popularity has skyrocketed over the last 2 years, think of how many E30 owners will appreciate QUALITY M3 parts for their pride and joy... I can either increase the value of 20 E30s, or I can slowly decrease the value of however many M3's remain.

This particular car is an AWESOME candidate for a parts car, because there are still SO MANY good usable parts... but it is just effed enough to be not structurally sound.

I have parted out some really clean, rare cars that should have been rebuilt.
By EVERY SINGLE one of these cars parted, increased the value of many others.

                                The 45k mile M6

                                The 10x,000 mile M635

                                The 100,000 850

                                The DINAN 3.9 M5

                                The 50k mile 535i 5speed.

Anyway, didn't mean to stray so off-topic, but I *genuinely* feel it is in the best interest of the collective community.

                                ymmv ;)
