I pulled the head off the engine I'm rebuilding and started fiddling with the tappets. From what I read it seemed like they should all have a certain sponginess to them, but of the 24 tappets, only three of them were at all pliable. Then I took a look at the cam trays and, remembering which order I removed them it, it dawned on me that whomever last pulled this head installed the cam trays in reverse. This effectively starved the tappets of oil for however long this engine was run after the head work - so the 19 tappets are seized. My question is - what effect would this have on the running engine? Would there be damage to the springs/valves? Can these be repaired or am I replacing them?
Cylinder's 1/2/3/5/6 all passed a leak-down with flying colours, cylinder 4 flunked (60psi). There's also no indication of piston contact.
