It wasn't the best setup, but it worked ok. I ended up switching to the setup e30polak reccomended (eBay headers --> Flowmaster dual 2" to single 2.5" --> Borla XR1 --> Vibrant street power) with 2.5" single all the way back. This setup is much louder and responsive at the high end of the powerband.
IMO, I wouldn't use an E30 center section again though. Even with a stock M50TU it was pretty restrictive.
does anyone sell a e30 24v exhaust?

Ok, here are the pics I took tonight with it still on the lift. Not the best, but whatever. Please excuse the dirty rear valence.

This setup is actually really quiet, but I haven't driven it under heavy load yet so I can't accurately speak about. Idles and drives around sounds fantastic though. Uploading a video now, will try and post it up in a little while.

You are running your o2 sensor only off of 3 cylinders?? how does that work out?Leave a comment:

As far as I know, no. However, you are located pretty close to this company, Mandrel Bending Solutions in Pasadena, MD. They have made some pretty good looking custom exhausts, fully mandrel bent exhausts, that people have posted pictures of.
If you're brave, you might be able to install some long tube headers, and hoof it down the highway to MBS and have them install the rest of your system, whatever you choose to do.
sounds like a planLeave a comment:

It's just the eBay headers w/ the passenger side shimmed up around .250" to clear everything.
Thanks alex, it does sound good, maybe even a little too quiet for my taste. Is your setup similar to this, but with an OBD-II midsection?Leave a comment:

Yeah, I know. I have all the components, minus the piping just didn't want to deal with making it and having everything fit right. My old man is about to buy a bending (tube) machine, so I am just waiting to mandrel bend my own shit. :PLeave a comment:

The system that I advised you to run would've sounded ill. I'm curious to see how yours sounds. I think my set-up sounds amazing!I originally wanted to run those, coupled to a flowmaster dual 2" to single 2.5" y pipe, to a borla xr-1 muffler to a Vibrant muffler at the end w/ single 2.5" piping all the way back. For some reason, I decided this would be too much of a PITA and just wanted the car up and going with as little exhaust work as possible, so here is what I have now.Leave a comment:

I will take some pictures tonight and try to get a sound clip tomorrow. Just wrapping all the little stuff up tonight and then off to get aligned. Looks ok, sits a little lower than stock and closer to the gas tank. Valence may need to be trimmed depending on what rear section you run.Leave a comment:

I am almost finished with my exhaust and here is what I went with.
I went out and bought the cheapest eBay headers I could find. I originally wanted to run those, coupled to a flowmaster dual 2" to single 2.5" y pipe, to a borla xr-1 muffler to a Vibrant muffler at the end w/ single 2.5" piping all the way back. For some reason, I decided this would be too much of a PITA and just wanted the car up and going with as little exhaust work as possible, so here is what I have now.
I took an E30 325i Midsection and cut off the front flanges. I then swaged some steel to slip directly over the ebay headers and into the modified E30 325i midsection. Then etched the portion where I wanted to weld the swaged pieces onto the E30 midsection and had a buddy weld them up. After that, bolted everything up w/ 2" walker band clamps on the headers. I have an E30 325i Remus catback that I will be running as soon as I get some gaskets and another flange, but I started the car up with just the modded E30 midsection and it was pretty quiet!
The only thing about running this setup is you have to cut off where the O2 bung/crossover section is, so it may be a little raspier and you have to weld on a new O2 bung.
Hope this helps, and if anyone is looking for some nice swaged piping for running this setup, I may be able to help.
