I mean i dont buy smoked out engines like others and sell the parts. I get them in a crate and shipped them to u in the same way that I got it. Unless you want my techs to inspect it... We should be fine and think positive.

    z3maniac1,

If I receive the motor first and then shipped to you then yes I will stay behind my product. I will be as supportive as I can if there is any issues with the kits. But if the motor is shipped directly to you from the salvage yard then WE might have to deal with them the source in europe. Like I said we are buying used engines and we just have to hope that we have no problems.

    stormpike,

the engine thats in my car, i replaced gaskets, hoses, thermostat, spark plugs and thats it. since everything else looked good. The guy in Maryland who bought a motor from me is very happy with the engine and I am sure he will post pics up very soon.

What preventative things did you all do to these motors before install? I want to make sure while it is out of the car to do stuff that is easier (Ie H2O pump, gaskets, any sensors) that would be needed.

    thanks!

I asked you a yes or no question.

And I only ask, because I ended up in the same situation, headgasket started leaking within 100 miles of startup.

The 'yard I purchased the motor from sent me a reman'd head, headgasket and gasket set and new head bolts.

Its very simple, these motors are coming from salvage yards in Europe and most of the companies test the motors before they actually break the car down to parts. It all comes down to price and who in the U.S can give you a good price. I am not in the euro motor business and dont make a living of selling them either.

It doesnt matter whom you buy them from since they are coming from the same sources in Europe, the difference is how much you will pay for them in the U.S. I can provide customers with invoices of how much the engine kits cost me and how much I am really gonna make. I am doing this to help fellow members in the forums and yes my sources will stay behind their products if there is a problem with anything major. So far knock on wood I havent had a problem with the engine and will pray that I dont have a problem in the future.

I had a feeling that there was gonna a lil bit of interference in this thread once I got involved.. Lets see how it goes.

Alex is da S50B30/2 man...I can vouch for that!! Of course now he'll be your S54 guy as well ;)

That's what you get for getting your head buried in S54 P&P for a couple months... man, I'm shopping in Germany now.
You need to get out of that garage of yours more often, and I don't mean going from yours to Jeff's place ;)

    RE: Exchange rate

Compression numbers.... Look very nicely balanced, but agree with comments about a fresh motor having MUCH higher compression for a Euro motor. 11.1 after all! That could still be a very smooth and powerful engine, but if the numbers are real, and the method for measuring them along with the tools being correct and accurate, they are low overall.

The exchange rate is crazy low today, 1.45 for the GBP, no better time to import from the UK where they speak english, not sure what the euro is doing in Germany.

UK engines will be RHD, course, thats not a huge deal, but now may be the time to get German ones if the exchange rate is good there too.

I don't offer Group Buys on Euro motors, but that is an interesting concept. I used to bring these in 5-7 at a time when the exchange rate was 1.7 or even 1.9, it was the only way to cut the expenses down.

At the end of the day, its not Rocket Science, and you can probably get all the info from in this forum on your own.

ABLOrignialParts.com has a FAQ which might provide some basic information.

Oh, btw, if you can get an MZ3 coupe/roadster engine that harness is the same for RHD or LHD and lends itself very well to the E30 transplant since you want nicely finished boots to terminate the splice box if you retain it, and pass the dme through the firewall.

Seals -It (*) is a newish product that would lend itself nicely to revising the firewall, and passing the 88pin connector through for you guys. MZ3 mounting tabs could hang the splice box, and it would look nice....Course, the E30M3 parts that tuck all away are VERY nice looking

(*) http://www.sealsit.com Pegasus and Racerparts Wholesale carry these I think, along now with many other vendors.

    There 'ya go... value added.

A few more additional items that need modifying...

Passenger side firewall/foot well needs to be modified, due to Cyl 6 header.
Need the E28 M5 Cluster coding plug
E36/E30 Stock radiators work as well
