what is this part?

the mounting tab broke (was really brittle) when disassembling my m52 motor. it says on it "vacuum unit"

the part number on it is #11.78 1 740 207


it was bolted to the block. can someone tell me what this is/where i can pick one up?

Thats the vacuum thingy for the E36 328i exhaust flap.

Under 2500rpm the flap is closed and over it opens, that vacuum thing helps control it, don't need it at all unless you want to get the flap to work in your project but most E36 guys throw it away too.

EDIT: If it makes you feel any better I broke my tab too as it was also very brittle.

Haha, had the same issue yesterday! When I pulled my m50 i didnt know whether to keep it or not :P
