*Power steering / crankcase vent questions*

I run factory OBD2 CCV setups on everything.

For those like me who don't have the stock air intake, can you plz help?
My intake tube has an unthreaded fitting located post-MAF, where the hose from the ICV ties into. Is it ok to Y into this line from the CCV larger connector (M50 NV OBD1) ?

So just for anyone searching this topic; I used all the e36 power steering lines from the 1996 328is. It took some slight bending and creative routing, but everything is hooked up properly. As a reminder, I have a m52 with original e36 ps pump going to a e36 steering rack.


And for the crankcase vent; I used the obd1 system from a 1993 325is. It is the valve that connects to the crankcase vent on the valve cover, aka the pcv. I used a small piece of 1 inch hose and hose clamps to connect the pcv to the obd2 head. From there, the big hose goes to the bottom of the intake boot, and the small vacuum hose goes to the nipple on the bottom of the m50 manifold (where the idle control valve connects)

Hopefully this will help some people in the future!

That's the ghetto way, and you better run a catch can or your filter will hate u.

Thanks for the help guys, but Im gonna stick with the OBD1 design and just have the crankcase vent to the intake manifold

That's how I did it. I cut the drain tube off the E36 dipstick tube, cut a hole in the E34 dipstick tube, and grafted together. Picture taken right before a friend welded it up for me.

Yup^ a little fab is all it takes. My welder guy did mine for $30. He did look at me crazy first and say it was pretty thin material and he couldn't assure me of it's ongoing integrity.

This is why if you run obd2 you need to hack the drain tube. All the M52TU and M54 guys do it. Peep their threads out.
I personally am running the oil separator and all S52 plumbing.

I could use my cyclonic oil separator, but where would the oil drain to? The e34 dipstick does not have a fitting for the drain like the m52 dipstick does.

Also, have people run oil catch cans? That seems like an easy fix as well...

I will get you some part numbers when I get home. It's in my E30 and a lot others have the same set up as mine. There's no issues with the bolts being the wrong size.

^ The post before yours stated that the e30 hose has the incorrect banjo bolt size. So who is right here? Ive heard more people say the e30 line fits...

For my swap, I used an E30 HP line with an E30 rack to res return hose, and an E36 pump to res return hose. This allowed me to mount the res in the stock E36 location on the engine arm as my IX booster wouldn't allow for the stock E30 location to work.

I'm using a stock E30 high pressure line on mine (I have an E46 rack in the car). If I recall the rack side is fine its the pump side that's the issue. The pump side banjo bolt is a larger diameter than the factory E30 bolt (E36 banjo bolt won't fit in the E30 line as it sits), I ended up opening up the pumps side of E30 line with a uni-bit. I've been running it that way for over a year (this car is a track rat) with nary a leak, also I don't use copper crush washers, I've had way better luck with hydraulic line fittings from mcmaster carr, the rubber/viton (depending on availability, I get viton if i can) and steel seal washers work much better with surface minor imperfections, in my opinion (YMMV of course).

So are we saying that the m20 hose will fit the m52 and e36 rack?

I just looked on bmwfans and Im kicking myself for throwing away the m20 hoses...

Cmon some one has to know the answer!! I need to order a hose asap!
