Reinforced Subframe + Revshift Mounts

I used the flat doubler and the 'curved' outer piece. Even using the AKG mounts which use the hole not the slot. The hole in the reinf plate had to be opened up a bit for a socket to fit. The stud comes thru the subframe at an angle so just test fit for wrench clearance before reinstalling on car -
In stock form, the stud should go through the hole and the little nub on the stock mount goes into the slot. This allows you to use a socket through the hole in the reinforcement plate.Leave a comment:

Just curious but would this pertain to most aftermarket mounts? I.E. CSS, AKG, REV, etc... I'm about to weld on some reinforcement tabs on a spare subframe till I came across this.. If clearance is an issue, would it be wise to opt out for that curved piece or just grind it out till you can realistically work with it?
Thanks!Leave a comment:

I ran into that also. I just grinder out what what I needed to fit a socket in there.Leave a comment:

Those nuts that go onto the mounts are quite beefy too so fitting even a thinned and trimmed 17mm wrench is impossible. Forget fitting a socket in there, the angle makes it impossible.
Since I couldnt get the Revshift mount back out I cut the damn thing outLeave a comment:

Reinforced Subframe + Revshift Mounts
I may be a complete fool, but I cannot for the lifeof me figure out how to properly mount the Revshift motor mounts on a reinforced subframe.
I understand these mounts go on the slotted/oval hole on the subframe when using E36 motor mount arms...correct?

Next, how do you get this nut tightened? I tried various tools (there is zero room thanks to the reinforced plate) until I simply wedged a thick scredriver to keep the nut from sipnning. That only got the nut onto the mount half way. So I wanted to get the mount back out but it was impossible to reverse twist the nut off. The whole bottom plate/stud assembly started spinning seperately from the polyurethane part so i had no way to get the nut back off.
I found a picture from another guy's issue which is the same, so obviously the welded bracket + engine swap is a problem more common than just in my garage:

What mounts do people use with a reeinforced subframe? And how do you guys tighten the nut in that tiny little space?Last edited by Styleprojekt; 05-16-2013, 08:33 AM.Tags: None
