I installed my S52 with Getrag 250 trans from a E36 325i, the E30 shift carrier and then used a Z3 1.9 shifter with a UUC DSSR for the E30 trans.
The shift carrier places the shifter about 2 inches farther forward in the trans shifter hole, and the shift lever hits the tunnel in 5th gear. I trimmed the hole to get more room but I don't like the shifter being so far forward, as it seems like it will pop out of 5th gear.
So I decided to figure out what to do. The stock E30 shift rod is 187mm center to center, while the UUC DSSR I have is 189mm, turns out it's for a 92-94 325i. Somehow I ended up with the wrong one, but that's another story.
Looking at the shifter, if I place it in the center of the carrier, that is to say move the lever so it is straight up from the carrier, the shift rod will need to be approx 12mm shorter, or 177mm center to center.
