So when I picked up my 91 318is that’s been s50 swapped it had a push start where the cigarette lighter was. It’s always worked fine starting it via key in the on position and pressing the push start. Anyways I yanked the s50 out of the engine bay and while undoing the wiring I found the wire that runs from the push start to the starter and it got me thinking “why is there a push start in the first place instead of the normal ignition?” When I try to start the car via turn key it does absolutely nothing..
This is where my question comes in. Could the reason for for the PO nstalling a push start be because he was too cheap to buy a chip with an EWS delete??? Under normal circumstances the dme would require the ews delete for proper turn key operation, so is the push start a sort of EWS bypass, will the car run if the DME has EWS and a push start is used?
Hooe this isn’t too confusing, thanks for any input!
