(Question) e30 with California legal m54b30 swap?

    Hi everyone,
I am new to the E30 engine swap but I have been reading all the information about it the problem is I live in California! I don't want to do an illegal swap (i know I can pass it smog with $$ but I don't want do that)
is it possible to do an M54b30 LEGAL swap in California
1- Would the stock headers fit?
2- The engine needs to be taken off an e46 ONLYor I can use the X5/E39?
3-The check engine light and the cluster I was thinking of swapping the (e46/e39/x5) cluster into the e30 dash (i can do that) but would that make it easier or will interfere with other stuff? less harness modification?
4-What is the best option for manual transmission?
    I have a 1991 318i (sedan) (m42)
    Thank you

I'm going to reply, but since I don't live in Kalifornia,
I'm just talkin' hearsay from other boards.

Rumor has it that you should pick a vehicle similar to yours
(an E46) that's newer, then implement all of its features.

In our case, that means you'll have to use the manifolds with cats.
Which, I don't think fit into an E30. They hit the inner fender. I think.

I am hoping that others will now chime in....

Live in kali with a m54 swap and its pretty much impossible, you would have to seriously modify the car to accept the cats in the headers, same goes for the S54.
