I used their epoxy primer over the bare metal and urethane primer for finishing and blocking before sealer. Also used Evercoat's feather fill high build polyester filler primer to help get everything straight before final primer. I honestly don't remember what I used from Dupont. It was just their production level stuff, nothing crazy. I really like the Eastwood stuff tho, great quality for the money.

that's about right depending on your region I am from Hawaii and had a car repainted black, paint and body work was $5k. I live in Houston texas and the price are way less there are a lot of good painters here and I have seen individuals paint cars here for $2k and get awesome paint jobs.

I have an insider hook up on a re-spray for my car. If I strip all the mouldings off and have them put in a new core support (I supply the parts) and have them do all the dent and ding repair, they quoted me $700 total. Hell yes I am...

Yes shrinkage! I spent a good 6 months on the e30 but that is heads and shoulders better than the jetta. If you're serious about doing it, you should check out the paintucation DVDs with Kevin Tetz. Lots of great info in there to get you going.

On the e30 I used colorrite base (because I chose a motorcycle color) and PPG DC4000 clear. Quite pricey at about $500 for 5 mixed quarts, but much nicer than the cheaper Dupont stuff. I bought that from Keystone Automotive or LKQ (parent company). I think they're nation wide so you may be able to find a location in your area. They also have their own line of more economical paints that I've heard good things about.

As far as the booth goes, I built a 2x4 temporary construction in one of the bays and skinned it with 6 mil clear plastic, installed 4 box fans with filters on one side, and built a filter box that tucked under the garage door on the other side (exhaust). I also covered the floor with cheap red rosin paper you can get at any building supply store because I didn't want paint on my nicely epoxy coated floor. As long as you clean the area well and don't track things in, you'll come out with a relatively dust/dirt free job.
Do you have pics of the car I'm really leaning toward this way of doing things.
