my buddy had his wifes 78 bug painted candy pink there, turned out horrible, runs, spotty flake, overspray everywhere! he paid like 600 bucks and did most of the prep work himself but he let them tape it. Bad news, your better off painting it yourself, at least you'll learn something.

I was doing some unrelated service work in a Maaco. A van pulled in and the driver asked the shop manager if he had any work.

"Sure, I have three cars. 50 bucks each."

About 5 guys got out of the van and started taping. Less than an hour later, they were done and drove off.

I wasn't there when the tape came off but I can imagine what it looked like.

seriously dont do it. I bought a car and he told me that they painted it a year ago. Its super dull, overspray everywhere, and even when i taped off areas to do my shadowline with paints tape some of it peeled off

My experiance with a Maaco painted car, I bought a 70 Dodge Dart that was painted by them. The PO did all of the body work then he had them paint it. I don't know who taped it off, but they sucked. The paint had very little gloss to it and was thin. But the only plus side to it was that the mettalic was even through out the paint and wasn't blotchy and there was no runs in it.

^ thats decent advise if you know what you are doing .

A first timer can seriously fuck up a potentially good repray by taking a DA to it .
Same can be said for paper selection, trim removal and definitely some harm can be done by an unexperienced wet-sander and buffer .

i have had a couple of cars sprayed at maaco, and honestly it is all in your prep work. every job that they've done came out amazing and lasted for a good bit... atleast til i sold the car 5 years later. everyone thinks that just because they are a chain, they're no good... not true. true, they are a production shop, but quality can still be obtained. just take a da to your car and go to work. do all your body work, spot primer and wet sand. i took off all of my trim and everything i didn't want them to tape up, and when i got it back i just wet sanded again and buffed. viola! you have a good paint job for a meer $750!! just my 2 cents that is.
