The PO of my early model coupe installed some all black (no chrome inserts) body side molding from a later model e30, and hacked up the rear quarter moldings in the process because they are longer and do not fit early model coupes.
I wanted to install some new all black moldings on quarter panels but as far as I can tell they only made all black ones to fit the later models, and all of the early models had the chrome inserts. Can anyone confirm this??
I even went into the BMW ETK by my VIN and there was part numbers for both black and chrome. I ordered up the black ones and what came was clearly a longer molding for a later model so I returned them.
I could always paint the chrome inserts black but it would look strange with my other moldings being the all black with no inserts.
I could have sworn I have seen some early models with all black moldings??
