Asking for opinions re:White Roll cage?

I've wanted to French in a cage for a while, similar to what Garey (bmwmech1) did on his M3 conversion. I wouldn't have any part of it exposed though. I'm only concerned because E30s are old now and by comparison to today's cars they don't do so well in crashes. Didn't think about the forces transmitted through a body. I figured if the cage kept the structure intact the occupants would be OK.

Yes off road. you can tuck a cage in pretty tight. figure it like this, if the trans motor,cage ,body are all solid mounted, you in the seat are the only thing that is moving around. while being strapped in you move around more than any other part in the vehicle Inertia takes over and it will leave you hurting. Our cars have crumple zones and soak up that energy so we dont have to.

if you are going to do a cage in a street car, be sure to install swivel mount door bars. being cut out of a cage is no fun...

I was in a wreck in a fully caged prerunner, got hit from behind. The impact was 20 times more violent than it would hav been because of the rigidity in the frame and cage.

true, but a well set up cage will have a proper seat and your head should stay within the boundries of a seat.. with or without the Hans.

Luckly i was wearing the 5 points correctly. but it transferred all of that energy clean thru me.

I was black and blue for weeks.

the other vehicle was an excursion and it was a total loss.

The pre runner i was driving Got a new Bumper,and about 8" of frame rail replaced where the bumper mounted.

moral of the story, If its a track car that you want to drive on the weekends go for it. if its a DD the car will be so rigid that it will get old really quick.

Why no cages for a DD? I'm always worried some fucktard in a giant suv will be too busy texting and roll over me monster truck style.

if the car is set up properly the chance of a rollover is slim. Roll bars take up your back seat and make the guys that dont know shit about cars think its faster than it really is.

Put strut tower braces in it and enjoy the fact that its not a rececar...

What sort of cage are you thinking about? Climbing over a door bar gets old REALLY quickly.
