Thanks for the offer but I got it. I actually drilled a hole to see if the ignition lock wasn't fully going down but it was. So I rented an industrial puller and it came off.



I am thinking of doing a dash swap so I will find out if that is happening before I put it back on. I tried putting it back on and it was not going on easy and the teeth already look a little flattened and knurled.

Still have this problem, I can pull it out like 1/4 inch and thats it. It is definitely hitting something because you can hear it. I have a 1991 318is, any ideas?

The wheel was not aligned properly, hence it bit the splines incorrectly an now stuck.

Time for the blow torch and a new steering column. :D

leave the nut on the thread when your trying to bash it off...

Is it possible that the end of the splines on the steering wheel have bitten into the steering column where it widens out? That's what comes to mind for me. It would take some force to get it stuck there I would think, but I bet that would bite pretty good if it happened.

And no it's not the wheel lock

Maybe if you put a notched plate between the wheel and the column you could use a 2 jaw puller to force it off. You might end up damaging something though.

I can feel it moving, but barely. I'm going to try using a rubber mallet tonight. At first I thought the steering wheel lock wasn't disengaging, but then I wouldn't be able to turn the wheel at all (which I can do).

Does the wheel budge at all when you yank at it? Are you grabbing the wheel on two opposite ends and pulling straight out? Use a mallet instead of a hammer, to minimize damage, and hit the wheel all around while yanking the wheel by hand on the opposite end (maybe borrow a set of hands from your neighbor or something). If that didn't work try banging on it towards the column as if you are trying to install it as opposed to removing it. Something is locked in there and you need some movement to get it dislodged. I feel for your headache brother.

what year is your car? was it factory airbag or someone just put the wheel on?

It's a 91' 318is. Originally an airbag wheel which I took off easily. I was test fitting an MTech-1, and now its stuck.

Did you accidentally weld it on?

LOL no. Welding is not my forte.

It's drivable, so I can still get around even though this is my DD. I can feel/hear the wheel rubbing against the steering column when I turn.
