bad idea. I dont see how your going to add the LED strips without chopping your tailights in half. Also the lense is made to scatter light not show the LEDs in that strip pattern. but rice your car all you want.

I'd rather have a less distinct light pattern (denser led packaging, further back from the lens), and make sure the reflectors are well lit (no dark border caused by not illuminating the entire housing).
i don't know a better/easier way to create a picture of the planned light pattern but if you do, please, let me know.

i hate the dark border as well. i will try to avoid that as much as i can. on my way to work i thought about using the extra lens that is between the bulb and the housing in the original parking light. that spreads the light pretty well and make it look uniform. or a bit foggy plexiglass. BTW i don't think the led's will be so separated because of the design of the housing but there will be hot spots for sure without using that extra lens.

i like the led pattern. BTW i think they will look more uniformed than the ones on the picture because of the led's i'm planning on using.

these are photoshop pictures only. i haven't ordered the led's yet but they will come from superbrightleds.com for sure.
i'm planning on doing this but first i have to make up my mind on the exact design. and also i need to find spare taillights for the project cuz it will take a while...
