    Another stop light failure.

*I'm sorry for the cellphone pics, you've been warned. :) It's all I had.

So the other day, I'm enjoying my 91 318is, when suddenly I realized my brake lights cut out. After a dangerous ride home, I immediately browsed the forums to see if this is common. Luckily, it seems to happen to others. I checked all fuses and all are okay. All bulbs are still good, too. As per advice of much wiser forum members, I tried playing with the "red button" on the brake light switch, and adjust it, but nothing was making the light come on when the pedal was pressed. I disconnected the sensor, and I noticed the wires were looking like this:

I know, I know. Please bear with me.

Are those small tears in the wire enough to cause a total failure? Does this mean it might not be the switch, but the harness?

I moved the wires around slightly, but couldnt seem to get a connection. My question is, would I be wasting money buying a new switch? Should I be looking for a harness instead and splicing the wires in to make a new plug? I'm new to working on cars, so if the answer is obvious, sorry for being a noobie. I just don't know where to go.
