you just have to bang the hole out with a mallet or other blunt object. When you remove the rear seat back, you will see a square in the middle that must be removed. Then just get one of Luke's boxes and you are all set.

I used to have an Impreza and that was a popular solution for that crowd.

If others find it acceptable, I have bunches of 4" ports

Seriously HUGE, especially if you have the all heavy leather "iS" interior.

Cloth seats like this really don't have much effect.

Just what I was gonna post, lol. Pretty sexy interior, though. Never seen that pattern before.

Also, I have a rear seat with an armrest, but does the armrest have to be down all the time? You guys are making it sound like the rear seat is impenetrable when it comes to bass. ;)

Won't be perfect but I guess better than nothing.

Who would change the rear for killer bass?

Wow, that is a very nice interior. Not sure I could bring myself to change that either and I am a pretty serious audiophile. Not basshead, but audiophile. I might do large 8's or small 10's in the rear cards like I've seen on a few convertibles if I had that interior.

You can try Luke's suggestion (lol he knows e30's really well). I can only speak out of my experience with the 3 that I have. IMHO fold down rear seat will give you the cleanest and most efficient bass possible. Though I am VERY curious about 8's/10's in the rear cards. I might have to try it.

My single 10 box will kick the crap out of 2 8" done that way AND use way less trunk space.

EDIT: maybe I didn't make myself clear: you need not modify those cloth seats at all, just add a little power. 500 RMS on bass and 35W X4 on front and rear, your car will sound great.

With mine it did indeed sound better with the rear seat out, but even with the M3 rears it sounds great. Taking foam out of the seat actually made it sound worse because it shook more, the stock m3 seat doesn't vibrate noticeably until you really crank it up and hit the low frequencies.

On the other hand, my car is pretty loud with the solid coilover suspension and engine, and I don't listen to rap or stuff with heavy bass, so I lose a lot of discernment for the minor details.

I went with an M3 seat to complete my car's theme. With that said, I'm putting an armrest seat in my brother's e30.
