    The tach signal is AC voltage, so you can't use a test light to test it.

    is there a way to check if the tach is getting a signal with a test light Still having problems with it I have swapped in two working SI boards and it is still not working.

    Yeah The only other time I have installed a stereo was on a 98 subaru so the wires are the same color making things easy.:)

    What color should the 12v acc be? on the diagram it has it as purple and grey but I don't have a purple and grey wire. thinking that this is the problem.

    ^ word. The stock e30 ground sucks anyways. I still have a/c hum and I cant figure out how to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Why don't you just ground it to the metal cage that holds the headunit in place just sand it well and put the wire under a bolt

    Definitely good advice and you would also thing just good old common sense.
    Trouble is this guy, like a lot out there, would not know what to do with a test light.
