Ideas on where to hide amp in lukebox setup

i wouldn't recommend attaching your amp to the sub box. the rattles will eventually kill it. my last setup i mounted it to the back of the trunk next to my subs. as soon as i make a mount for the rear seat panel ill post up.

Urban legend (unless pushing serious power). If someone were that worried about it they could use rubber isolators on the screws and feet of the amp like are used in carputer setups. Never had a problem with mounting customer amps to boxes.

Wouldn't the amp get too hot behind the seat side panels? I haven't looked behind the panels, but in my mind, it doesn't seem like there's anywhere for the heat to go from there. Anyone have any experience with mounting them behind the rear seat side panels?

Really want some pictures of an amp mounted behing the rear seat side panels. I thought about putting speakers there a couple years ago, but decided against it. I had some extra panels lying around and thought why not?

Thats true about the vibrations hurting the amp though... Maybe put some bushing between to keep the vibrations down?

I mean they are really small laptop fans. Only like an inch diameter. So Have 2 on each sie of the amp one side intake the other side exhaust to flow air over the gills, They look like they'll work pretty perfectly, I'lll get some pics up.

Here's what I did... When you make your beauty board, before you carpet it, screw in some spacer pieces of wood. I think I spaced the one I showed out 1/4" farther than the amp comes out. This gives the amp room to breath.

As far as holding it in place firmly... I always use the industrial strength velcro stapled onto the box and stapled onto the wood spacers. Works perfectly.

I have only had one sub and amp combo a long time ago, it blew and i said forget it. but....

You can put amps in the quarter panels behind the rear trims.

Think I'm going to mount the amp to the box. Behind the back seat side panels looked neat but I just found some rust back there and I don't want my amp there right now. I'll take another inch or so hit on trunk space. It shouldn't overheat with 4 micro fans forcing air through the gills.

So 1 relay can run 4 fans? But each needs grounding and fusing? The fans I have actually have a piggyback connection where you can run multiple fans together like christmas lights. Wonder if 1 fuse would suffice for all 4 fans when their ran off each other like that.

If they can be piggy backed then just use the appropriate fuse. And yes they all can be run on the relay IF the amperage for the fans does not exceed what the relay can handle. FWIS you most likely will not need 4 fans for an average setup.

My e30's setup doesn't need them, BUT my system in my e34 does. But that system is running at the very minimum 1600W rms. The Jl 1000/1 makes some heat. It really depends on the size of the space.

Also, just so you know, mounting a amp to a sub box isn't the best place. You will probably be ok, and it's not the worst thing in the world, but still. But I have seen setups where the amp was damaged because little bits of solder broke off from the vibration. So, just keep that in mind.

Still not clear on where exactly you're putting the L brackets. You're screwing them into the rear of the beauty board right? But what else are they anchored to?

I'll try to take some pictures for you tonight or tomorrow. But I put the two L brackets on the outside. Screwed into the board and then into the trunkside of the metal rear shelf. It's not really that visible and it locks it in and is easy to unscrew when you need to access the amps.

Didn't think of that... what do you mount it to though? Wedge a board in there then mount the amp to that board?

So mounting on the box behing the beauty board you guys are saying to put the beauty board right up against the amp? Will the amp have enough breathing room?

I've got 4 micro laptop 12v fans to put on my amp though so maybe with those it will be cool enough.

How would I wire 4 12v fans to the amp?

But I don't understand why on that guide he has a neon light hooked up with the fan/amp setup. Is some random 12v device required? Or maybe that guide was just written when neon tubes were all the rage.

Regarding the fans. That is exactly how you would do it and the light is just there showing you can splice into the wire coming of pin 30, or solder multiple lines into pin 30 as long as you fuse and ground each device.

Where are these already drilled holes to put the angle iron on? my amp would have to go in vertical to fit, its too long to fit in horizontally.
