I'd definitely be interested in some photos of that amp rack if you get them.
8" Lukebox setup questions

Still looking at subs with amp package. Thinking about jlw1s or alpine type r, but curious if anyone has a great setup for cheaper.

I'm using the Alpine Type R - haven't pushed it yet but the box sounds amazing. When I turn it up it punches far above its weight. Can't speak to other subs as I've only used this one. But I'm totally happy with it, it doesn't distort or get muddied at any point. In fact the limiting factor is me, my ears hurt past a certain threshold.Leave a comment:

Thank you, Luke. Clarity is the goal. The 8" version of the infinity subwoofer suggested for the 10" box looks like it might not fit well (5 3/16" mounting depth). I'll check out the Sundown subwoofer listed above.Leave a comment:

That is clearly more intended for a sealed box application, but still should be pretty impressive. I personally would opt for something else if avsolute clarity is a goal. The higher Q is going to make things a little "boomy"I just crudely measured the depth perpendicular to the mounting surface at the top and bottom of the speaker hole (mounting surface to the back wall and base of the box, respectively). The depth at these points was ~4.8 inches, which means if the magnet was as big as the speaker hole you could mount a subwoofer with a mounting depth of ~4.7 inches with a touch of extra space.
The front face is ~22 degrees relative to the back wall assuming the top, bottom and back walls are perpendicular to each other. So if you use some geometry you can see if you can mount a deeper subwoofer with a smaller diameter magnet.
On a somewhat related note, I was looking at the Alpine SWR-843D (all specs on pg 4 of pdf here). It fits the box (4.5 inch mounting depth), but the Qts is 0.55 and Fs is 40 Hz. Are these parameters out of decent ranges for this box?Leave a comment:

Well, since there is an angle involved, the answer is not so simple.
The diameter of the magnet/motor structure has nearly as much to do with it as the depth. Since the mounting panel is angled, a smaller diameter magnet might clear more easily even at the same depth.
There are some useful pics on our site too: http://germanaudiospecialties.com/e30/e308.html
I see now that the spec tables are all messed up, we will get that sorted out shortly.Leave a comment:

yep thats the one! regarding figment, is it the depth or diameter or the coils or what? do you have an 8" box in stock to take a photo of the inside?
thanks for your time and soon I'll stop threadjacking.Leave a comment:

We are talking about this: http://www.1800woofers.com/products/...udio-E8v2.html
Correct?
If that fits (gonna be tight, yo!) is will sound absolutely stellar. A slightly higher Qts will actually help, make it a bit "punchier" at the resonance point, which is great on an 8".
Let me make a quick warning: whatever you hear when first testing an 8" woofer, ignore it. They can change sound drastically over the first week of use, seems the suspension loosens more than a typical 10" or 12".
But yeah, if that woofer fits, you will love it.

hey luke, i'm paraphrasing a quote from another thread here
do you have the subwoofer specification recommendations for your 8" lukebox? right now i'm looking at the sundown e8v2, which has the following specs:
QTS .4748
Fs 44.7 Hz
Mms 96 g
is that a good fit for this smaller box? my listening tastes don't focus on bass-heavy music.Leave a comment:
