Frank, can you post a pic of the head unit in your car? At some point I'd like to get rid of the stock unit and hope this one will look original-ish in an E30.

It is very erratic. I have to perform actions in a certain order for it to work correctly the next time I turn the car on..

    1. get into "radio" mode
    2. unplug IPOD
    3. turn radio off
    4. turn car off

and opposite for re-plugging the IPOD back in. .You can't just plug and unplug it back in.

Sometimes the text display doesn't work; you can only control the music through the IPOD controls. Sometimes the IPOD controls are frozen and you can only control it through the HeadUnit.

Overall satisfaction is a 7 out of 10

From looking at BFC posts about CD43 compatibility this seems to be the norm. Would have been nice to have stock look and great IPOD functionality. I think I am going to get an Alpine 9885 or Eclipse CD7000 for the ix

As far as I know it should be the same.

Awesome, also would the process be the same with the M3? Or is that a different harness?

Maybe that should be covered somewhere else, not trying to hijack!

Please keep us updated. I want to do this install but would like to see some pictures and a clear idea of what I need to do before I go breaking crap.

I want a USB input on a video screen, with full ID3 text.

Audio out should be fixed voltage RCAs.

Screen should be big enough to use, like 5 lines.

Nevermind, I am gonna dump my Sony and buy a Blaupunkt.

That is what I understood too: that only RF modulation using RDS will display info.

Why the hell can't I buy a USB device with some kind of display on a controller, like for an AUX input?

From what I read, Icelink does support the tags, but the CD43 only supports artists/titles from radio stations. I could be wrong.

I have a cd43 and HD DICE in my e30. If Icelink is installed similar to mine then you need to replicate the cd43 cd changer connectors. It is a 3 and 6 pin connector. You can get a short cd changer cable if you wanted to keep it in the glovebox but you will still need to make something for the 3 pin connector.
