    Yeah Luke, it's sad. I got out almost exactly three years ago; did the sales end of it. My reasons for leaving had more to do with shitty new owners and the desire to finish school, but I also saw the auto manufacturers catching up with us, or enough for most people's tastes. It is also increasingly harder to integrate with the OEM dash/electronics in many cars. The shop at which I used to work is doing more and more home installations, in order to stay relevant. I have many fond memories of ridiculous installs we put together, with the customers profusely thanking me after dropping multiple thousands on a new system... crazy! It was a special time, but all good things come to an end. I hope it doesn't impact your income negatively, but it's not like you have a pregnant teen to worry about. Ah, shit...

    I wrote a long diatribe about why NOT to be an installer.
