my previous question still exists... i'm thinkin about rewiring the whole system as well.. -
If anyone is interested I just bought the alpina CDA-9886 the other day and it's awesome. It doesn't adjust to amber but I have it set to "black out" - when the screen is inactive it just turns off. I like this idea better than adjusting colors.
The Ipod controls are super easy, it had 3 sets of 4v pre-outs as well as usb in the rear.
Oh, and it plays CDs.Leave a comment:

I don't like that alpine model, they just made that button enormous when they could have made the screen bigger for easier searching.Leave a comment:

I just purchased the iDA-X300. I think it's an awesome system! I haven't installed it yet but I hooked everything up power wise just to turn it on and mess with it. I pulled a 30gb hdd from an old laptop that was laying around and loaded it up with music. The deck instantly recognized all the files and did a great job of organizing and making it super easy to search through. Same with the ipod, all controls are great, took a minute or two to get used to it but I love the system! Can't wait to install it next week! (waiting to finish my sub box and get new front speakers in)Leave a comment:

hey.. i know this thread was created a few months ago but i have a few questions if any one can help me. I have an '87 e30 325is and i just bought an alpine ida-x200 and 5.25" spr-13c alpine component speakers. I just removed the factory stereo and i'm about to install these. I have the premium sound in my car and I heard that the factory amp can be a bitch.. so is there any way to take the amp out of the circuit? Also will i need anything else than what came in the alpine box for installing the headunit?Leave a comment:

I usually have my ipod on shuffle, so what I did with my old Alpine CDM is get the rear aux input jack, run the wire to the glovebox, add a 12v outlet to the glovebox using the flashlight charger prongs, wire up a switch, and bought a cheapo remote on ebay to control the ipod wirelessly. Its definitely the cheapo way to go ;)Leave a comment:

You'd think they may make the screen bigger seeing as how it's a pain in the ass to search through iPod's on small screens. My brother has a new alpine and it's a bitch to search.Yeah, this is the "no deck" deck...and yet, the damn retards at Alpine made it the same size as a normal deck.
There are only 2 models shown in the catalog, the IDA-X100 and 200. Not much difference between them except the display and Bluetooth.
Alpine expected you to buy a "Vehicle Hub Pro" to use as a remote. Typical, $500 for something that should have been included!
Alpine product is great, but Alpine as a company sucks balls.Leave a comment:

This is what I bought not too long ago. Blaupunkt Brisbane digital media reciever. Its similar to the Alpine headunit but less expensive and less, flashy IMO. Plus it looks amazing if you like that "ol school" feel to your dash and the lighting options are infinite.
*it also uses the ipod to control the songs, which is what i wantedLeave a comment:

on mine it uses "imprint" multieq or something like that, it seems pretty decentI have 001 (1st gen LCD). I hate lugging around CDs and i wanted to be able to just leave my car withiut having to disconnect my ipod and hide it every time park my car (ipod is in the glovebox) Pros include it can run two ipods, its hard drive compatible so you can save some money by just getting a 100gb portable hard drive, It shows the album art and search functions are very quick with the USB connection, you can turn off the internal amp to boost RCA output, you can download wallpaper from alpines website. Cons include lack of EQ adjustability, remote control sold separately, bluetooth addition is expensive, you can not create your own wallpaper, and price.
A cheaper alternative would be the Clarion FB275BT. Its only $120 and you have the option of 728 colors.
