yup huge pita.
take the rear window seal out
take the rails off.
strip the top material off
sand all the glue off
us filler to fill the 1000s of tiny holes. the top is also wavy so you will need to smooth out all the highs and lows. otherwise when you paint it, it will look terrible.
then primer and paint. leave all the rubber attached and wedge in a rope to old it away from the fiberglass.
the whole job should take about 30 hours.Leave a comment:

I am interested in the rubber fabric if it can be saved when removing.Leave a comment:

No idea of the color code for the black, but the rack install was beyond easy. Took 20 minutes, including the little fab work needed. There's a write-up on here somewhere.
Found it

Someone say painted hardtop?
I bought mine like this(minus the bike rack), but I would've ended up doing it anyways. I just got lucky the work was done for me.

i did a top for a very particular customer, the fiberglass on those things is really diformed and not at all finished, i think it ended up being around 40 hours of labor time to get it perfectLeave a comment:

Maybe Ill do a 1/2 padded landau top on mine with a nice silver trim strip across the middle and opera lights on the c pillars. It will look just like a Mark VLeave a comment:

Bringing this back up rather than making a new thread. I was looking at my top yesterday in the rain and found a saggy weak spot.... I guess I will have to strip it down and glass it. I found a really awesome upholstery guy who can redo tops and if he can give me a good price I will just re vinyl it. I am bummed about the sag though :(Leave a comment:
