so I left some coolant for it to drink...
No but really, I have a relatively new (installed a few years back) cat back, but the exhaust manifold + cat is stock (1987). When the car is running, there's a hissing sound from the cat area. The cover under the cat is pretty rusted.
Question is, assuming that it's not a bad connection between the cat and cat back, do I need a new cat if it's rusted through? I'm in CT and the car is >25yo so I don't need to pass emissions or any of that silliness. This would be something I would take care of in the summer, but I'm trying to see what options I have.
Do I:
1. need to get a new cat (pricey)
2. patch the hole in the old cat (don't know if this is feasible)
3. remove the cat and run piping straight to the cat back (don't know if this would cause performance and/or noise issues)
