Getting rid of rasp

How do people get rid of the raspy tone associated with a lot of exhausts? I am going to get a single 2.5" system and I am afraid it will be raspy.

good muffler and no leaks, 2.5" in my opinon is too big. do 2.25. wut muffler r u going to use?

Cat-back or full exhaust? My 2.5" custom catback only had a rasp due to a couple of leaks. I have a Magnaflow 5x8 muffler.

I was going to use a magnaflow Y Pipe (dual 2" - single 2.5") to come off the stock downpipes. 2" is a little big but I figured it would probably work. From that go to a magnaflow hi flow cat, then to a magnaflow 14226.

No leaks, proper sizing (2.5" for a single is essentially identical to stock 45mm x 2), and quality components.

Your setup should be fine. If it isn't, a resonator will help (I would have included one in my plans, they just make exhausts sound nicer IMO). Even a cheap Cherry Bomb can do the trick.

people successfully use aero 10"x5" resonator to quench the e46m3 rasp, so you can try that..
I also hear rasp is caused by too tight of crush bends in piping, so try going mandrel for tight ones

if i had a 325, i would just keep the dual exhaust all the way through.. bmw made it that way for a reason. i on the other hand have single 2.25 exhaust on my 318. with only a cat and a dynomax muffler it got pretty raspy, but a resonator toned it down.. its actually louder now with the resonator, but it only has nice deep tones to it. i set off more car alarms now.

either way, summit racing has CHEAP exhaust parts. everythin from your y pipe to magnaflow. they even have dual in dual out mufflers as well if you decide to go that route.

While they do have good prices, for magnaflow, I haven't found better prices than justmagnaflow.com, and they have free shipping over $50 (w/ no handling charges, unlike summit and jegs).

if u were to go with 2.5" all the way, and if ur goin catless, make sure to run a cherry bomb, glass pack, or some other kind of resonator...that will clean up the exhaust notwe and also keep from adding dronage at certain cruising speeds...if u really want advice ask matt he really knows wut he's talking about when it comes to exhaust
