it sounds great when your on it but when you left off it used to sound so raspy..

Ebay headers, to y pipe, to 2.5" straight back to magnaflow muffler, I wonder if a resonator would help that out as well?
I actually like the way yours sounds. I'd take that any day over mine.

I don't have a clip at the moment, my car is on jacks with no shift linkage and I can't make one. This one though, sounds practically identical to mine:

See how it sounds tinny in the high end? THat bothers me. Think the cat and muffler will break in and it'll sound better?

Brewcity11 has the UUC cat back modded to the m20 exhaust. It is deep and good, but LOUD.

I have obd2 manifolds, obd2 downpipes, Y, 2.5 single to 2.5 magnaflow cat, to single 2.5 in/out 18x5x8 muffler. It was super quiet when first installed, i could hardly guess the car was running and there was no rasp, now it's a different story since the muffler broke in. It's loud and rumbly, i dont like it, but at least no rasp still.

are you running 24 valve? if so the e36 parts work under the car, just change the muffler hangers in the rear. also i dont think the m20 would sound so good with that muffler. the majority of the sound is in the motor itself. if you think the UUC sounds good, listen to the clip on understeer.coms site of the stromung on a e36m3!!

e30groupie has the real deal supersprint bits. i had obd2 exhaust manis, e36m50 obd1 mid pipes and a UUC system U behind it and had zero rasp also.

you have actual supersprints or the ebay ones like the rest of us?

But also, what's your set up?

I Think i might go with a resonator to reduce the rasp, i'd love a glass pack but aren't they pretty much the same thing?
I think resonators are almost the same as mufflers but designed differently to change noise rather than reduce it altogether. Glasspacks I know are straight through with a perforated interior wall with fiberglass behind that. They supposedly flow better but are less effective at reducing noise, they they're supposed to absorb more high noise than low.

Do you have a clip of what yours is sounding like after it's sort of broken in? I've heard of that happening, I just don't know to what degree.

started a topic What's the best rasp fixer for M50'd E30s?

What's the best rasp fixer for M50'd E30s?

I got my car back from the muffler shop a while back and he didn't have a resonator at the time that would fit. Said he'd have to custom order it so I should check it out when I take it home and see if it needs one.

It does. I've looked at lots of clips of M50'd e30s with SS headers and they all sound the same. Nice idle, but as soon as you get it up in the RPMs it sounds like a farting tin can. No low tones, just lots of metallic rasp.

I've been told that glasspacks are good for removing high-end noise, but I wonder if a typical resonator would be better. Either way, it'd cost about the same and thanks to my headers I have to take it back to have an O2 bung added anyway, so I'm curious what you guys would think is best.

I've got the typical ebay pain in the ass stainless headers going y pipe into a 2.5" single, with whatever cat was put in and a chambered muffler. There's some room for a resonator, but it'll have to be a skinny one. Nothing fancy about it, merely functional and not "Plx steal my car now!" to cops based on appearance.
    Thanks.
