I think my friend ran his 318i out of oil. What would that sound like?

    Time to pull the cover and take a look.

    FWIW, I have seen engines run totally dry with squealing bearings. They all tend to quiet down after adding oil. Might be something else going on

    I think it may have started when he was driving it around and not all of the oil was settled in the pan since he apparently hadn't checked it in quite a while. We filled it to full capacity now and it still sounds the same

    Oh this is much louder than a noisy blower. I pretty much have to plug my ears when its going. I almost feel like its starter/flywheel related though but the smoke comes from the valvetrain area as well as the back of the block. BTW nice GT6.
