HELP Car Overheating Help

I am hearing a sound similiar to knocking at idle with the car cool but I am assuming thats coming from the head, how do i check the fan clutch?

I still cant find the leak, I also am trying to do a coolant flush and i am barely getting more than a trickle out of the block?

Tow the car to a shop. They can fix it for you.

Is the expansion tank just the coolant reservoir? I just flushed the car's coolant and ran some flushing stuff to clean it out, I got solid particles that were rust colored when i drained it the first time, God I can't wait to swap the m50

And, please stay away from engine swaps, unless somebody else is doing it for you. I doubt that'll last long either seeing as you have poor ethic when it comes to your M20.

Thanks for all the words helpful and not so helpful. I don't see why everyone is hating so much I have more than enough experience working on cars to do a swap. I just don't have a great deal of experience with bmw's. I am ordering a new thermostat because I have diagnosed that to be a large part of the problem. I ill be doing a m50 in the next couple months
