Ended up being the temp sensor. Wouldn't respond correctly no matter what so we put a new one in. ....thanks guys. This is why r3v is a good forum, great and quickI rounded responses -
The gasket was put on by a family friends shop. I would imagine he knows what he's doing since he works on a shit ton of cars and specializes in heavy motor work. Hhe's worked on two of my cars personally and plenty of relatives vehiclesLeave a comment:

yea I spent a good 30 minute looking at everything...nothing seemed loose, but as I am still very unfamiliar with my e30 I may have overlooked something that may have been switched.
its at my friends shop right now, I'm gonna call him in a bit and see if he has gotten anywhere....
Before the intake mani gasket was replaced it never did this...even with a hissing gasket it started and ran OKAY.....now after the gasket was replaced and the intake put back together it starts like its ready to stall every second, and any gas will in fact stall it...you can smell the unburnt fuel in the exhaust.
I'm gonna be pissed if he tells me I need something else to be fixed....should I say ok I have to wait for more money and take it somewhere else? I really have no clue how to diagnose the issue myself, I have my Bentley but tools, pressure gauges, and anything to test my ignition system are an issue.
Wish there were more bmw shops around me besides dealers. I dont feel like paying double what I should.Leave a comment:

Well if it still had intake leaks wouldn't it not run well once warm?
I just adjusted the valves not too long ago, it improved the motors feel and quieted down a few valves...then did the mani gasket a little bit later....it only does this when cold....could something be leaking and just close up once warm?
I kinda think something isnt plugged in right or operating correctly anymore once its out of the cold idleLeave a comment:

Possibly the DME coolant temp sensor is not plugged in or flipped with the gauge sensor.Leave a comment:

I would say something is plugged in wrong or not plugged in at all.Leave a comment:

Replaced Intake Manifold Gasket-Now New Problems.
Had a terrible intake manifold leak come about last week. Brought it to my friend who owns his own shop and he replaced it and some various other hoses which were cracked/dried.
Now when cold starting it literally almost stalls for a full one or two minutes....give it any gas and it will stall. Once its warm it starts fine and idles smooth...
Once I get it to run enough to get into gear it stumbles the first 500 rpms then ZOOMS right through to 3k.....never has rev'd that fast before....but once the motor is at warm temp it runs normal....
what could it be? He has the car again and I'm posting to maybe get some advice if he comes to me and says I need something else done...even though it didn't do this before I brought it to him or before the gasket started hissing.Tags: None
