Hey man dont worry about it. Hqha i think you guys forget that i am only 17 so i am bound to make mistakes. I mean how much did you know about this kind of stuff when yall were my age? Im learning and i know ive made mistakes but im gettin there and everyones advice ive got on here is very much apperciated. Thanks for bearing with me though if ive asked stupid questions or anything im just trying to get a better grasp on all this because i really do not want to fuck this up for the 3rd timeGreat post.

Once you get that head on do a compression test, and pressure test your cooling system. You can get the tools for both at your local SEARS. I test my cooling system's to 15psi and go to lunch. If I come back and it is still at 15psi, good to go, if It isn't, find the leak time.
Compression test is also a great indicator of what's going on. We did a head gasket on an m20 not long ago that was idling like crap, and the coolant kept boiling over. Finally did a compression test and found low compression across the board. When I pulled the head, I found 9 out of 12 valves were ever so slightly bent. I have a feeling someone at the machine shop set it down on the valves during their end. These things can cause you to rip your hair out.Leave a comment:

Great post.I've been there. People forget how much knowledge they take for granted, and how much the framework of mechanical things plays into knowing what questions to ask, and knowing when your research is done.
For example, the head bolts are stretch bolts. Even though you read that, perhaps you do not know that they only stretch once. In other words, they can not be reused, because they are already stretched out. Trying to use them again will give incorrect (very incorrect) torque and uneven pressure across the head.
I'd bet that before going into this project you didn't even know such a thing as a stretch bolt existed, let alone how and why it operates. I sure didn't when I installed my first head. But hopefully you know now, and the next time a sensitive bolt comes up in documentation you'll know to ask the question "Is this a stretch bolt?", which you did not know to ask about.
The rest of you, calm the fuck down. No, he didn't do it the best way, but he said he had a Haynes and a friend. Maybe the friend is the "expert" and led our poor fellow to make mistakes and not question? We don't know, we know near nothing, so try not to dole out too much shit. You can't lambaste a guy for asking for help, or you'll teach him to avoid exactly what you want him to do in the future.
OP, Growing up is as much about learning how to do things as it is about learning how to ask for help. I know it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between the "right way" to do something, and the "Expensive" way to do things. There are certainly those purests on the board that will only do things OEM by-the-book, regardless of whether it costs them a million dollars. However, this is not one of those times. The guys that have spoken so far know their shit, and what they have suggested you do sp far, you can not skip or ignore or you will not have a head that can be fixed!

I just didnt understand what yall were saying but i completely understand now. The 56 ft lbs in the bentley just totally messed me up im sorry if you guys thought i wasnt wanting to take yall's advice and wisdom i do appreciate yalls patience. Sorry again for the confusion. Oh yeah i just picked up the head today, resurfaced now. So tonight were going to reassemble it and slap it back on and then tomorrow well do everything else. Hopefully have it running by friday or saturday.Leave a comment:

Ha, dude weve pulled the head off 3 times. We keep having overheating problems. However when the head was put back on the first and second time, it was not resurfaced. Come to find out, the poor thing was warped like 0.013? I think thats what the guy at the machine shop said. But so yeah we are really hoping this solves our severe coolant leak and minor oil leak.Leave a comment:

We pulled all the pullies off we haven't reassembled it yet we just got the head milled down the timing mark is on the crank and block one is a cut out notch and the other is on the crank as a line.Leave a comment:

Again, how did you time it with the bottom cover still in place?
I don't think I would go by the mark on the pulley. This is something you do by the actual timing belt pulley on the crank.
Regardless. Do a compression test, and check your oil pressure.Leave a comment:

You did all this work and apparently didn't know how to properly tighten head bolts, OR adjust valves. Is it really a stretch for me to think you don't know what the hell you are doing? I am just asking questions at this point.
