I was thinking it would be cool to have a thread that is just on stroker builds and knowledge. I personally had to do quite a lot of looking on other sites and numerous threads and asked even more questions. Seeing how r3v is the best e30 website on the Web. And there are plenty of 24v swap threads for other e30s, there's even one just for the ix. So if you have actually done a stroker of some kind please feel free to post up your build and specifics on how it was done. Below is what my build will be. It is in progress.
M20 3.0 stroker
M54B30 crank ( it is forged not cast.)
M54B30 rods ( forged as well)
M54B30 pistons ( from what I've been told 2mm needs to be shaved off the top of the pistons. Okay for a n/a build but not advised for any kind of boost.)
19lb injectors
Megasquirt v2
I havent done anything to my head so it's going to be stock for now. I plan on buying a second head and building the head from scratch but from what I've read it's highly recommended to get the following.
Heavy duty rockers
272 cam
Port and polish head
Oversized valves are not needed in my opinion but you can if you want.
The m54 pistons do fit perfectly like previously stated need to be shaved some ALWAYS make sure how much needs to be shaved off do not ever assume.
If you plan on using used pistons like I am you must hone the block and replace the piston rings.
Tools I'd recommend that not everyone has
Feeler gauge
Depth gauge
Piston ring compreseor
Micrometers of a couple of sizes
Plastigauge ( for checking the tolerance veteran the crank and man bearings and the rods with the crank.
Disclaimer: I have not tested the rods in my block so I do not know if the block needs modification I will update that when the time comes.
