Grade 12.9 bolts are NOT generic. Covered under ASTM F568 Specification. Grade 12.9 bolts/studs are manufactured from quenched & tempered alloy steel having a minimum tensile strength (min) of 1220 Mpa. Compared to Class 8.8, medium carbon steel; quench and tempered, tensile strength (min) 800 Mpa.

Tensile Strength: The maximum load in tension (pulling apart) which a material can withstand before breaking or fracturing.

You can get OEM bolts for around $25 online. They're much nicer than any other aftermarket head bolt. I also would never use a generic bolt like you listed above. You're a bit off on that ARP cost. They go for around $230 retail.

the arp studs are about 3mm too long and on some casts touch the valve cover. (they do on my car)

ARP now makes a specific kit for the M20 engine. They have for a couple years at least.

They are a perfect fit without issue.

Raceware (RTE) made the only m20 specific head studs.
