ETA runs rough/rich until AFM disconnect then perfect idle

Rebuilt my 1986 325es engine, rings, full head refresh, all-new gaskets, lines, etc. Running break in oil, the whole 9. Anyway, drove car home post rebuild, drove flawlessly except valves were a bit loose. Parked, adjusted valves next morning, car started very rough, idled rough, accelerates rough.
Everything is hooked up right. Unplug air flow meter, car idles perfectly. Plug air flow meter in, car shutters and intermittently dies. Unplug, flawless idle, and so forth.

Ecu grounded at all ground pins. Adjusted flow meter contacts to start from dead lean, now car idles pretty well and accelerates well(no load) with flow meter plugged in. I don't want to drive like that as I'd rather fix the problem.

DME is apparently chipped according to previous owner, and does rev past factory limit. Car drove great before rebuild until failed head gasket due to some idiot reusing original head bolts on head gasket job(found a snapped hex bolt when I did valve adjustment right after buying car, drove until gasket failed.)

Where do I go from here? Thanks for any help!!
