Odd symptoms with '86 e30 E325 manual USA.
Car started when cold, started failing to turn over when hot.
Checked the battery as it has problems recently. OK
Checked charging - voltage test while running show 13.75 at battery. OK
Checked for starter connections. Power post had some corrosion. Removed and cleaned. Starter quit turning. No clicking, no noise, just nothing. Tapping starter and solenoid did not help.
Determined likely solenoid failure. Maybe starter. Replaced and all good.
With the new starter, it became clear the old starter was not operating properly as the new one spins so much faster and the engine just kicks over right away.
As the starter got older and weaker, it was still able to turn over when cold but failed when hot.
