I would at least replace the easy to reach gaskets, and check the back of the head as well. This one tends to leak...

Have you looked at e30 auto driveshafts? You may be able to mix and match fronts and backs until something works.

As it is, I'm still not sure if I have a 265 or a 260/6.
Yeah it's not a lot longer but it's a couple of inches. Just enough that it won't work. The easiest way I have found to tell them apart is the angle on the mounting forks. Picture the transmission bolted in place under the car. If the mounting points point straight down then it's a g265 if they are angled in towards the transmission it's a g260.

Yeah the eta driveshaft is too long by a couple of inches. A stock e28 driveshaft is also too long fyi. As far as I know there is no "bolt on" driveshaft solution when using the g265 but if someone has one I would love to hear about it.

I'm going to have to actually take the entire car up to a shop and have them fab something custom for me. If you use a g260 you can just use a 325e "big-guibo" driveshaft and be done with it. To the best of my knowledge the only thing the g265 has going for it is that it's slightly beefier and has a removable bellhousing. I just wanted to let you know because I kind of got blind-sided by the issues raised when trying to use a g265.

Motor has low miles, doesn't leak out of rms. I don't want to take off the flywheel and timing cover :|

replace the thermostat, its fairly cheap. The housing will be fine, it's metal.
I would suggest replacing the accessory belts.

e30 temp sensor (for the gauge)
    This one?

I believe so, depending on the transmission used.

    no, they have different flanges.
Really? People have told me that it will work....

E32 headers will mate to e30 325i downpipes?
    no, they have different flanges.

I'm putting together a $$$ Pelican parts order. What all should be done while the motor is out?
