Turns out their store brand is re-branded MotoRad parts from Germany. $15.99 ain't bad for German parts :)

Upon close examination in a pot of hot water, the old thermostat doesn't seem to open as much as the new one. However it is definitely opening and closing at 80 degrees.

What brand was it? Did you get it from autozone?
I think mine is alittle slow too. It's a stock temp one, but it seems
              slow to close/open.

Ya, Autozone. Brand was MotoRad, made in Germany. It's 82 degrees vs the OEM one that's 80, but that shouldn't really make a difference.
