Sounds like you have done a tone of work. I was surprised at how much parts are for this little car so I can imagine the amount of money you've dropped already.
When you had the head machined, was it just decked? Did you have them inspect it for any damage? How did the cams look?
Maybe hook up an oil pressure gauge?
Good luck with it and hope you get it figured out and all is well.

Diesel sound now but coming together
So guys here's a list of what's been done so far (my pockets are starting to hurt and I've got stuck someone help! Lol)..
I've had it in the shop about a month and have replaced literally everything but the damn motor itself..
I've had the head machined, the bottom end has awesome compression so I really didn't touch anything else on the bottom end..., bought new plugs, wires, fuel, oil and air filters, new fuel pump, water pump, thermostat all hoses for vacuum and coolant, belts ,new clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder with new hose, all new rotors, pads, lines and sensors, front hubs and rear bearings replaced... Complete bluntech lemmfoerder suspension overhaul kit underneath with a uuc sway bar kit front and back, new strut mounts all four corners, bilstein sport cup kit (not to happy with the height diffrence) motor mounts, trans mount, idler pulley and changed the main relays that where most important and where available for the time being along with all new fuses...
Here's where my problem is:
I reassembled everything charged it up and start it up flawlessly... It idles beautifully BUTTT..... I'm now getting this dreaded diesel noise from what seems like one of the cams.. It sounds like it's not getting oil to it properly.. I know it's not timing or the belt skipping a tooth because I had a BMW tech friend of mine around when we checked it..and Im positive the valves aren't bent since they where fine when assembling earlier... Could anyone tell me if maybe the wrong oil could be a factor or maybe since its sat so long I should leave it running a little longer to let it lubricate better? I'm lost and no longer have another hand or knowledgable partner to help until he gets back from his trip in a few months... Lifters seem good also btw before anyone bashes me to READ or use the search bar I've searched for days and nothing quit fits my scenario
I've put so much into this car I could have probably swapped by now but I'm hoping that somone has been in this situation and might be familiar with a resolution..Leave a comment:

and it actually has an m60 motor with the alusil changed block so I'm guessing were on a good startSeems like a fairly easy restoration to me. Is that a glass moonroof or just a black painted panel. If the former you just paid for your work/swap/whatever.
Depends on the E34, generally not much can be used on an E30, however, it potentially has an M30 engine, which is an excellent swap candidate if you go that route.Leave a comment:

its got a sunroof but for some reason its sagging down a little below the roof but I'm not sure how much work it is to adjust and reseal it lolSeems like a fairly easy restoration to me. Is that a glass moonroof or just a black painted panel. If the former you just paid for your work/swap/whatever.

posted a few pics if anyones interested lol and i believe your right about that...might be best sinceLol. Learning by messing things up is always an option! Heck, we've all done it - I don't recommend it - but it's there.
Find someone local, that can look over things and give you an hour of their time. Buy them a 12 pack. Easy. You'll learn much more. Just my 2 cents.
i know a few car buds that would really be into helping on this so ill give it a go.. but its become an addiction already lol bought another from the same lady today but its an e34 and I'm hoping maybe a few people could enlighten me as to if i can swap much from one to the other.. only problem is its an automaticLeave a comment:

ive had a mercedes c43 and a few bmws... one being a 02 525i and an 04 325i but all I've ever done is basic maintenance.. ex: oil change, plugs belts but never swaps or motor pulling so i guess you can say I'm a noob.. but my intentions would be to start from here and learn what i can and either way I'm really not at a loss anywhere so why notLeave a comment:

ill try these steps and get back to you thanks broJust try to get it running, should cost less than $50.
1. Vacuum out the debris without damaging the valves (might want to tape on a small adapter to the vac to get in the ports more effectively.
2. Lightly oil the valves you can see with a heavy oil.
3. Put a very most a tablespoon of oil in each of the cylinders by removing the plugs (leave them out for now).
4. Drain the coolant/oil, refill oil.
5. If you have the ability, check timing.
6. Turn engine by hand with a socket on the crank bolt.
7. If that goes well put the lower manifold on (Also a good time to replace injector seals if they look bad.) and try a crank with the starter to see if fuel is getting to the cylinders. At your discretion drain the fuel with a siphon and refill, or add fresh fuel to the old. Maybe change the fuel filter.
8. Put the full intake manifold back on if fuel is getting there.
9. Try to start it.
10. Don't forget to refill the coolant. Let it get to operating temp, bleed it, watch the temp gauge carefully, check for signs of a head/gasket failure.
I bought an M42 that had been sitting for who knows how long with the manifold off did basically that and the car was fine other than it's Daytona Coupe loud exhaust.Leave a comment:

Change the fluids and give it a go. Worst case - it smokes and has terrible compression from all the internal corrosion. You may get lucky and it actually turns out to run fine.
There really aren't many vac lines on this engine...just make sure air path from the IAC is complete and that the FPR is hooked up to vac under the TB...plug all the rest if you're not sure.

Part 11 hooks up to the big port on the intake manifold (clamps needed), Part 17 goes into the intake boot.Leave a comment:

george graves i looked into that too but my concern was spending 4-500 on a motor and still having electrical/suspension/ and who knows what else come along too in the process... i know its part of what comes with the job but damn its allot lolLeave a comment:
