Bought a 1989 E30 318i about three weeks ago, has had a bad fan clutch that I've been aware of the whole time that would cause the cars temp gauge to be halfway between 1/2 way and 3/4 marks, and when idling a bit closer to the 3/4 mark. Driving to work today 'passionately' as I was late, I noticed the temperature continued to rise. I stopped the car, let it cool down and drove it home. After work I looked under the bonnet and the fan clutch is the same as before so I presume that issue hasn't gotten worse or is the cause of the heavy overheating. Drive to work is about 6 minutes and in that time the car managed to get just below red on the temp gauge. Turning the car on with the bonnet open I noticed a new sound I hadn't noticed before (can't be certain if it started today or a bit after I bought the car). It sounds a bit like metal lightly scraping on metal. Ive uploaded a video of the sound, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/lW9EcOSdE_4
