Bmw Oem part avail to mount zf6 speed transmission (2005+) into e30

Last post has getrag branded varient that does not require ear adapter for the transmission rubber mounts ; it has ears cast in. Find it and note the part number to save yourself the hassle of getting a F body mount adapter

No more need for custom items or shoddy modified stock units; bmw has a part that allows narrow mount clearance of the e30 +6 speed in the transmission tunnel. Compared to old part unit the setback and compact layout is ideal.

I'm sure many of the people making m50/g260 Trans x members could figure out a cheap and strong solution to adapt. The prior issue was that the older back plates were too wide for the tunnel; this item has no such issue.

    part number: 22316760303
    cost $20.25 @ pelican parts

comparison to the older wide (too big for e30) mount.

Photo of BMW OEM part number:

narrower configuration with set back; ideal for a "whiteis325 or whoever" made custom trans mount just like g260+m50.

that is actually the wrong part; its too wide to fit a E30 transmission tunnel

you need to use this one; its modern super light E90

$20.50 @ pelican. probably same or +/- a couple bucks at your local BMW dealer - it will likely be in stock too (SAP management system is awesome)

Ahhh you didn't post a part number in the original post so I went on the hunt!

Thanks for posting that... I would love to utilize this whenever I get myself an S54.

Yes; get the late model s54 from z4 with the zf6 speed box. Fit can be better than with the getrag6; those have fixed ears in the back and height compatibility/adapt issues.

              update:

              E46 ZHP 330 and all 05/06 manual 330i's use a ZF 6 speed transmission
E85 Z4 3.0 uses an identical and compatible transmission
E90 non turbo uses one also
E90 turbo also uses a transmission that can take this F-body adapter. This can also be fit into a E30 for big power use

That is for using a 6speed, with what engine?

                  any engine you like.

the inline 6 6mt transmission will directly bolt up to:

                  M42 4 cyl
                  M47 4 cylinder (disel)
                  M20 6 cyl
                  M50/m52/s52/M54 6 cyl
                  S54 6 cyl
                  N54 6 cyl
                  N55 6 cyl

If anyone is in europe the M47 engine in 2005/6++ years is attached to a ZF 6 speed that will bolt up directly to any M20 SOHC engine.

320D e46 6 speed sport; these gearboxes are plentiful and directly related to the ZF 6 speed in 2005/6 330i (ZHP) and Z4 and e90 non-turbo 328/330.

Disel engines share the slant of the M20; Gas engines DOHC are alll more tilted than the SOHC units.

So does this mean that the ZF GS6-37BZ/DZ from a e90 will fit with an s52 in the e30? Usually people mention the e46 trans which looks to be the same or similar in the 2005 330ci.
Been looking to do this but the earlier 6 speeds are so pricey.

                        Thanks,

                        Seth

there is a e30 with original M20 engine+ZF 6 speed driving around san francisco.
there is a e30 with 24v engine swap (s54) and ZF 6 speed installed in denmark.

I'm sure there are many more.

You honestly don't want an earlier 6 speed; its older, more worn and used.

S52 is nothing special; in all practical terms a M52 with 400cc stroke/bore.
buy the newest one you can find, BMW stopped fitting 5 speeds for E90 era

S54&M54 is pared with ZF 6mt in Z4; just as stated below; This was BMW's factory setup.

BMW uses a ZF gs6-37bz paired with S54b32/M54b30 in the Z4M/Z4.
BMW uses a ZF gs6-37bz paired with M54b30 in the 330i ZHP and e60 530i, a ZF SG320 5 speed was also paired with M54B30 in the earlier e46 330i.

a 335i transmission is a zf 6 speed and those also will bolt on to a M54/M52/M50 engine; will require finding the proper flywheel to match your engine (e46/z4 flywheel). E90 flywheels have a different inset ring gear and do not fit the older engines.

Thanks Waganstyle, I guess I need to look into getting one, I have been running a Getrag 240 with my s52 for about 6 months and was not happy with my clutch options for that trans as the bellhousing clearance is a little tighter than the 260 and others but it was what I had at the time. I have a 6 speed in my e90 (330) and like the ratios, the shift quality is pretty good (the 240 feels a little crisper), and gears are real quiet. The bigger question for me is what shift linkage parts will I need.
