i couldn't get out the m20 pilot bearing so i pounded it in deep and then i used the dual mass flywheel from the z4. it has the pilot bearing in the flywheel which the input shaft fit nicely into. i used a 228mm z4 clutch which of course fits on the spilnes it was used for.
in summary the input shaft on the tranny wasn't changed.Leave a comment:

i gingerly eased it straight down from 5th on the port mann bridge last night. after a bunch of trouble shooting shift linkages the whole mess fits together and drives like it should have. now on to other projects....Leave a comment:

shift linkage shortening and perfecting was a big pain in the c*nt. fabbing up a rear tranny braket and mount system was a piece of cake as i was helped out by a buddy(Colin).

shortened the font half of the e30 shaft and then had the flange of the z4 driveshaft welded on. then it was all balanced.Leave a comment:

driveshaft is being picked up today. it was the last piece in the puzzle. it will all be put together tonight and should be running on the test fitted tranny mounts.
it all test bolted right up to the engine. i'll do a writeup later though.Leave a comment:

update.
every single tranny bolt hole lines up and it doesn't appear to be tiled 10 degrees.(unless its hard to tell by eye)
input shafts are different between the two trannies. the 260 having far fewer notches on the shaft then the z4.
shift linkage doesn't look like it is going to be very friendly to swap. both of the linkages appear to be too long.
rear guibo is much larger on the 6 speed. are all e36's much bigger?
