Thanks. Wire is sorted for now :). Got the M52 out yesterday, started preparing the E30 engine bay.

Will take some time to become to my liking :) . More or less engine bay locations are known, except the location of the ABS pump. Will use your advise on the radiator, the corrections to the frame wont be so dramatic as I imagined. Once the E30 is prepared will start to refresh the M60. For the prop shaft a shortened/balanced E36 325 piece will be used with an E30 central bearing.

Does anyone has information on wiring the E38 M60 manual to the E30. Only information I can find is concerning the E34? The E38 does not have a round engine plug but lots of smaller ones.

    Guys,

I am curious, is there a way to determine if an ecu has EWS? When I removed everything electrical from the car I dint find anything related to EWS (no EWS module, no ring reader around the key lock ). GT1 could not locate the EWS, so I assume car has no EWS - am I correct?

One whole week, i have been "recycling" the E38. Took much more time than expected, working alone is a bitch :( . ABS is completely out, including the wiring which was a mofo (had to remove all the interior+exterior, hate to just cut wires). Tried to remove one ABS sensor hoping to reuse all of them, but it was seized and just broke :(.
My neighbor is digging for some pipes this week, will take the motor+trans using his small bobcat (should be fun).

For the OEM price I can have custom nearly everything on the exhaust. Will start to dismantle the E38 tomorrow. Hope to have it completly naked in 2 full days. Will post pictures of the process (finally found my 7d charger)

edit: The garage space I found turned out to be very small, new entrance was quickly decided on

    few hours later

    final resting place

    edit2:

Started on the ABS part, f*ck man the E38 is wired like a 70' space ship. Everywhere I poke wires, wires and more wires.

I will try to use the E38 radiator (this thing is humungous), seems brand new - stamp says 2007.

Do you have any spare manifolds, how difficult is to get them and how much would they cost? Here that's a mission impossible :(, I dont want to by an X5 , i only want some parts

    Yes, they're M62-powered X5 manifolds.

E36 steering rack fitted already :)

Are you using E53 exhaust manifolds? Any tips on the fabrication will be helpfull.

Ok, that'll be interesting to see :) You're using E36 steering rack?

"Cutting slight wedges" you are talking about 60mm on each side?

Have you changed the thermostat to the lower temp one eg. 85 degrees?
60mm sounds quite a big number.. Friend of mine used E34 540 rad in his swap, if I remember correctly the cut-outs were something like 1-2cm. E38 could have slightly larger rad, though.

ABS wont be a problem new lines and all is good, the tourer is missing it by default. The E38 ABS/pump combo is a completely different beast, much faster and of course wheel independent. A friend of mine "K27" has fitted the same ABS from E38 on his M70 swap :). Adapters will need to be fabricated due to size difference of the E38 ABS sensors.
Ahh, you don't have any ABS to start with. That explains :)

Haha, but life is much nicer with AC on those three hot days we get during the summertime! ;)

Cutting slight wedges to frame rails is no big deal, this way you could fit e.g. the original E38 radiator.

Other option is to get custom-radiator made. Expensive, but efficient.

No use and f***ing complicated. WORKING E30 ABS will be as good as any other you can fit in there, though by fitting E32 / E34 ABS pump + control box you get individual pipes / control to each wheel (in E30 both rear wheels are combined to single pipe/circuit).

    Your cabrio looks stunning :)

What radiator do you think will be sufficient without subframe modifications? On this engine the oil filter housing is moveble , so upper hose location will be same e.g. E36 upper hose.

I have planned to retrofit the whole E38 ABS system to the E30, more power will need clever brakes. Currently when brakes are applied car locks all 4 wheels and I skid away in a straight line. Fun to do but not much effective on stopping distance.

Yes, it's larger than the original E30 radiator but I still doubt it'll be big enough. We've had lots of heat-related problems with V8 E30's due to undersized radiators.. Of course it's also depending on the size and effect of the electric fan.

I am still collecting all necessary tools, today will be buying a pro welding tools. Will start to cannibalize the awfully nice 740 this weekend, I already sold the engine in the Touring (need to take it out).
