Oil filter housing center support element, SNAP-in vs Threaded?!

    Hi,

I was cleaning the 740i oil filter housing, and ordered a replacement center oil filter support element that stays in the middle of the oil filter and it appears that mine has a Threaded bottom end and not the one that snaps in with O-ring.

It seems realoem.com does not show it, I am looking for part #22 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_1414

When you select and earlier with M60 engine vs M62 then you see this part number http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_1414

Part numer 11421745392 is what I ordered from local dealer and it's the right length but the bottom isn't threaded like the one I removed from the housing :/

Can someone clarify what part number I need to order if my oil filter housing wants a threaded center oil support element?

If yours is threaded as well, can you confirm build year/model your housing came out of so that maybe I can track it that way?

    Thank you

does this pop/screw into the cap? i realized i dont even have that on my cap. just the metal tube in the housing itself. i may try to go to the junkyard for this

Im guessing your solution is to buy a new cap as well.

There are two versions, the housings that are pre 96 have the inner plastic support tower that SNAPS in, but the 96+ have a part that screws in and that part is not serviceable ...you can't even order it at all, I spent half hour of my time at a local BMW dealer and they confirmed it's not available. If you break that part you are looking at a new housing.

I may just end up going with aftermarket remote oil filter housing, I just need to figure out what people are doing with those in regards to oil return line that goes to the oil pan. The remote filter setups that I've seen only have TWO main lines, and don't have a provision for 3rd oil line it seems.

Yeah, I was considering tracking down one of these :) What build/chassis did you pick to find it btw? I only looked on eBay and wasn't able to find any that don't have a PLASTIC center section that I don't want to deal with.

              Update:
I ordered 11421745392 center support (snap on) piece.
              My housing is off a '95 740iL M60b40. PN 1142722269.
              My filter is PN 1427510717

My housing has the center metal tube. I pushed the new support piece over the metal tube until it clicked. I had to push pretty hard. Then, the filter snapped into the cap, and i screwed the cap on. I believe this to be correct, per the service bulletin.

I would recommend a housing with the metal tube, as the threaded center support type breaks, and the threaded center support is NLA.

Yep, the threaded one is not a good one to use . I had no idea about these differences until recently !

Thanks for figuring out what combination works with the xxx269 housing!
