question about chips

I have a question about chipped cars.

Lets say you have to disconnect the battery for some reason. Does the car have to go through the process of learning the new program all over again? It seems like my car does.

By the way I have a Mark D chip in an "88 325is.

If the engine is stock, has no intake leaks, has a good O2 sensor, and the fuel system is working properly there should be no detectible difference in operation following a battery disconnect.

Well I guess I have to have it looked at. I think it may have a problem.

And yes, I do believe that the m20 "re-learns" after the batter is unplugged. I've noticed that and have been told it more than once. People offen say to "drive it live you stole it" after a chip upgrade, or a long battery unplug because it will learn to be more performance minded.
