Hi all
Well let me give you a little story behind the question. Basically my timing cover gasket was leaking on the M42 so I decided to do a whole head gasket replacement. While doing this I also decided that I am going to upgrade a few things at the same time. This is what I had planned.
- Mustang 19# injectors
- VW lightweight lifters
- COP kit from Rob
- Full recondition of the head
- Radius valve seat job
As usual things don't go to plan. First thing was an exhorts valve on cylinder 3 was really deep into the port consequently the top of the valve steam had been shaved to compensate for this, ended up being the seat have been cut back really deep buy some retard before I got the car.
Then as the machine shop was pressing in the new seats in cylinder 2 exhorts port a crack developed from inside the water jacket across and over to the valve seat and into the port which they cannot fix :(
But that is ok they have only charge me the $60 for cleaning the head which is good, anyways I am in the process of getting a head from a member here which looks in really good condition.
So I know have time to order some other bits and peaces more importantly valve springs and retainers.
My two options are
- MM Beehive springs and retainers
- Super Tech springs and retainers
I know that MM is really good and everyone recommends them. But what dose everyone thinks of Supertech stuff they are $80 more expensive, are they lighter and stronger then MM and the fact they you have a choice of 3 spring’s rates is nice.
Also with either of these packages can I use my standard Keepers and is there any work required to the spring seats?
Cheers Massimo
